Habari means “News” when you want to find out how one is fairing.

Singular

Habari? – How are you?

Plural

Habari zenu? – How are you

 

Examples in sentences

Habari za leo?        How are you today

Habari za watoto?        Any news about the children / How are the children

Habari za asubuhi?        Good morning

Habari za kazi?    -    News about work / How was work



Example of a simple conversation:

Nino: Hujambo Nanjala?        How are you Nanjala?

Nanjala: Sijambo Nino. Habari za kazi?        I am fine Nino. How is work?

Nino: Nzuri sana. Watoto hawajambo?        Work Is okay. How are the

children?

Nanjala: Hawajambo, lakini Jay ni mgonjwa.        They are fine, but

Jay is sick.

Nino: Pole sana.        I am very sorry for you (singular.)/I am sorry to

hear that. (Showing empathy)

Nanjala: Ameshapoa. Asante sana.        He has already recovered. Thank

you very much. (Receiving the empathizing words with hope)
